Sleepless in Seattle

Sunday:  Today was our last day in Canada.  After a hot breakfast lovingly prepared by Darlene we managed to stuff all our worldly belongings into our cases ready for the next leg of our trip- the U.S.

Monday:  Neale and I had a leisurely breakfast at the hotel (while the teenagers slept in- no surprises there) and then we put on walking shoes on to be ready, set, go…

EMP Museum
'Scratching'
Interactive Music & Sound:  Aidan on guitar, Neale on percussion, Hayley on keyboard and Susan on vocals.  Hmm????

Nirvana: Susan loved all the little handwritten 'scribbles' we know as lyrics.
Hayley & a Dalek, Dr Who

Jimmy Hendrix:  Ok, so we're not Hendrix fans but it was a good display.
Guitar Art

Rolling Stones:  Neale enjoyed listening to their story while Susan had a lunch time nap.
'Screamers'

Sci-Fi Display:  2 private collections of Sci Fi memorabilia including Dr Who, Star Gate, Super Man and Matrix.  Here we had a chance to do our own movie making with green screens.

History of Horror Movies:  Lots of screaming techniques and horror makeup ideas.

Space Needle

After some family quality time standing in line for 1hr and 20minutes we made our way up to the top of the Space Needle to get a 350 degree view of Seattle.  The one bonus about the long wait meant it was sunset when we finally reached the top.  Picturesque!  Snow capped mountains surround the city.

Monorail

A quick trip from the Space Needle to Downtown to have tea and watch a movie.  We sat in the freezing cold eating our Subway & Crepes until Aidan discovered we could sit in the warmth of the Convention Centre.  They also had free wi-fi so Aidan (& the rest of us) could chat to his girl, Veronica for New Years.

Regal Theatre: Les Miserables

To keep us going 'til midnight fireworks we decided to go to the movies.  Neale was impressed, Aidan had too many questions, Susan enjoyed it almost as much as the theatre production and Hayley sobbed her way through.  A beautiful story of redemption and restitution.

Fireworks  We walked around for a time, to keep warm, and then found a space to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, take photos and view the fireworks.  There was the sweet smell of hot chocolate and a potted plant substance in the air.  It was a mild 1 degree and not a spot of rain in sight (even though Seattle is renowned for rain).  Even though my family had to keep me awake to see it- it was worth it.

Happy New Year!
